Common questions.
Quick answers about virtual service, secure intake, review, refund advances, and getting started with Next Door.
How do I send my tax documents?
Begin with the Start My Taxes form using only basic contact information. Sensitive tax documents should be uploaded only through the approved secure client portal after your invitation is sent.
Is Next Door completely virtual?
Yes. The website, client intake, preparer communication, document handling, review workflow, and filing process are designed for virtual service.
Do you serve clients nationwide?
Next Door is built for nationwide virtual service. State-return availability can depend on the facts of your return and the states involved.
Do you work with families and dependents?
Yes. We prepare returns involving filing-status, dependent, child-related credit, withholding, and other family tax issues based on the information and documentation provided.
Do you work with self-employed and gig workers?
Yes. We serve eligible contractors, freelancers, drivers, delivery workers, and other self-employed clients who need help reporting business income and expenses.
Is a refund advance guaranteed?
No. Refund advances are loans offered through a participating bank-product provider and are subject to approval, eligibility, program terms, availability, and provider requirements.
How much may be available through a refund advance?
Eligible clients may be able to apply for amounts from $500 to $7,000. Approval and the amount offered depend on the participating provider's rules.
Does my preparer file my return immediately after finishing it?
No. Next Door uses a required manager-review workflow before e-file. A completed return must pass the appropriate review and authorization steps first.
Can someone promise my refund amount before reviewing my tax information?
No responsible refund amount can be determined before the relevant facts and tax information are reviewed. Tax outcomes depend on the actual return.
Can I choose a specific Next Door preparer?
Yes, when a certified preparer is active and accepting clients. Use the Find a Preparer directory and start from that preparer's tracked intake link.
What happens after I submit the Start My Taxes form?
Your request enters the Next Door workflow. You will then receive instructions for the approved secure client portal so sensitive tax information can be handled through the proper system.
How do I get started?
Use Start My Taxes to submit your basic contact information. Do not enter Social Security numbers, IDs, W-2 information, or other sensitive tax documents into the public website form.
